Dear Treetops Patients

What an amazing month we have had at Treetops, we have celebrated six team members’ birthdays ranging from all different age groups, mind you, they have made me sign a ‘secrecy policy’ forbidding me to reveal their ages – ‘mum’s the word’ apparently!!! We ended the month by marking the 12th year of Treetops Dental Surgery being led by a true professional, who has ‘patient first’ at the foundation to growing and developing the care and services our patients receive.  Polly, we congratulate you on leading from the front, 12 years of hard work, growth and development, combined with lots of laughter and fun – congratulations Polly. The air of celebration has been uplifting yet the abundance of homemade cakes we have consumed has left us all feeling we need a healthy July!

We had a team meeting yesterday which always leaves me feeling so appreciative of the amazing set of professionals we have working at Treetops, the whole team are so incredibly patient focused and totally engaged in the Treetops values, they are a pleasure to work with – a proud manager moment!  The team has asked me to thank all of our patients who have taken the time to share some ‘wow’ reviews this month.  In addition they asked me to thank all the patients who accepted our invitation to share their patient journey through a video testimonial.  We believe in the care and service we provide yet when new patients read or hear reviews directly from our patients it has such a positive effect for them – we all thank you so much.

We all wish you an amazingly sunny and healthy July.

Take care
Louise

Failed To Attend Appointments

Sadly, we have witnessed 420 appointments being missed in the past 5 months and this has equated to approximately 18 days of lost clinical time.

As a team we do appreciate that life can sometimes get in the way and patients do not intentionally miss their appointments. This understanding has always made us hesitant to apply our ‘failed to attend policy’ yet due to the increase and the negative effect this is having on our appointment availability, we will sadly be more stringent on applying failed to attend charges.

We hope that you support our reasoning behind this.

In our last newsletter we shared with you that we have a new team mascot in the form of Tilly the Treetops Tooth Fairy!

We know how important a good oral health routine is from a young age and we want to make sure we are doing all we can to encourage our younger patients to enjoy their visits to Treetops. So we decided we would ask our younger patients to send Tilly an email and tell her what they do as part of their teeth cleaning routine. And we received some fantastic emails! In return Tilly sent a little bottle of glitter for the children to sprinkle on their gardens for the next time they lose a tooth so Tilly knows where to find them!

We do hope this helps to encourage children to take responsibility for their oral health at home and gives parents some support if they need it.

Below are a few emails we have received so far:

‘I have been using a sand timer to make sure that I’m brushing my teeth for the right amount of time’- Max, almost 7 years old

‘I brush my teeth every morning and every night to get the sugar germs out’ – Theo 4 years old

`Brush twice a day, no sugar everyday, eat healthy food, visit the dentist` – Jessica`

Thank you to the younger patients that have participated so far. If you would like your child to receive a letter from Tilly, just send an email to assistant@treetopsdentalsurgery.co.uk to tell Tilly what they do as part of their daily teeth cleaning routine, or if they have any questions for Tilly, she will be more than happy to personally reply.

Here we see a wonderful example of how veneers have completely transformed this lovely patient’s smile – Dr Peter Reece and nurse Donna have produced an amazing result – needless to say the patient was absolutely over the moon and all ready for her sister’s wedding!

Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain that are precisely made to fit over the visible surface of your front teeth and as you can see, transform smiles!  They are like a false fingernail which fits over a nail, the veneer covers your natural tooth which may be discoloured or chipped.  Veneers can also close gaps between the front teeth. They are often considered the go-to treatment for anyone who doesn’t require extensive dental work.  Veneers are permanently bonded over your existing teeth and can create smiles that you want to share!

This wonderful patient presented to Dr Amandeep Bhamber and nurse Kacey with pain and sensitivity from a tooth that had a cavity and a broken filling.   The decay has been removed and the broken filling replaced and we hope you agree it looks amazing, so natural and the patient is now pain free.
This is a really interesting case by Dr Pankhania  and nurse Emma.

Our patient presented with a broken pin retained amalgam filling.  Pins used to be placed to give the amalgam extra strength to bond to the tooth. Today we use composite fillings negating the need for this method. As you can imagine the patient was absolutely thrilled with the result!

What is an endodontist?
An endodontist is a dentist who specialises in saving teeth. They are experts in diagnosing and treating dental pain and infection, as well as managing dental trauma.
Endodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with the ‘dental pulp’ and tissues surrounding the roots of a tooth. The dental pulp is a living soft tissue contained within the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels. The term “Endo” is the Greek word for “inside” and “odont” is Greek for “tooth.”What is endodontic treatment?
Endodontic treatment encompasses a variety of procedures that aim to treat or prevent diseases to the soft dental pulp tissue inside the tooth. Root canal treatment is the most common type of endodontic treatment. What is a Root Canal treatment?
Root canal treatment is designed to eliminate bacteria from the infected root canal, prevent re-infection of the tooth and save the natural tooth. When one undergoes a root canal, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed. The tooth is restored with a crown or filling for protection and will continue to function like any other tooth.
What are the benefits of treatment?
Endodontic treatment helps you maintain your natural smile, continue eating the foods you love and limits the need for ongoing dental work. With proper care, most teeth that have had root canal treatment can last a lifetime. How do you know if you need a root canal?
Root canal treatment is needed when bacteria get within the ‘dental pulp’ due to a crack, broken tooth, deep filling or cavity that may cause pain and/or an infection.
Some symptoms that might mean you need endodontic treatment include:Severe pain while chewing or biting
Lumps or pimples on the gums
A chipped or cracked tooth
Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, even after the sensation has been removed
Swollen or tender gums
Deep decay or darkening of the gums
Is root canal treatment painful?
Modern root canal treatment is a painless procedure performed with local anesthetic. It can usually be completed in one or two appointments, depending on the condition of your tooth and your personal circumstances.

Thank you Dr Burn for explaining why Endodontic treatment is so important!

At Treetops we listen closely to our patients’ feedback and we thank you so much for sharing it with us.  We are always motivated to meet and hopefully exceed our patients’ wishes and we are thrilled to share with you we have listened and acted on your requests for more hygienist appointments.  We now have four lovely Dental Hygienists available throughout the week, so getting a hygiene appointment has never been easier!

Just give us a call and book in with either Greg, Jean, Kaye or Stacy

June Team Birthdays!

In the month of June we have had lots of Birthdays to celebrate! Happy birthday to Practice Owner Polly, Reception team Linda and Kerrie, Hygienist Jean, Nurse Mel and the multi talented Reception/Nurse/Implant Nurse Jodie!

We hope you all had a lovely birthday on your days off.

A problem with a Pontic
That’s bridgework to you and me
Came loose amongst some malt loaf
A gap left for all to see
A call to see the dentist
Was made A.S.A.P
What did I find?
A receptionist kind
and an appointment for half past three.
(I know it was 9:15 but that didn’t rhyme)
Dr Bhamber checked the Pontic over
A plan was duly made
To glue back in, to maintain my grin
The finish was top grade
The work it’s not yet over
More plans are underway
A more permanent solution
Will sort it, to keep the gap at bay

So thank you Treetops Practice
For all your help and care
If you ever need treatment
It’s good  that you are there!

Thank you so much to Liz, one of our very talented patients, for taking the time to dedicate this poem for us!  This poem has really touched our hearts and takes pride of place in the staffroom for us all to appreciate. I hope you agree Liz is very talented indeed!

We hope you have a fabulous July

Love all of the Treetops Team
