I would like to begin by saying thank you so much to our patients for your loyal commitment to us at Treetops Dental Surgery and for understanding how challenging it has been at times to keep up to date with Covid restrictions. We have had to make decisions over the last year that have been unprecedented in our Treetops history, however, I hope you agree the decisions we have made to keep our patients and team safe, will continue to be the cornerstone to all we do.Thank you to all of the Treetops team – As I walk through the practice I am always struck by their efforts and continued enthusiasm to deliver excellent dentistry. Their commitment to their patients and camaraderie with each other cannot help but lift my spirits and raise a smile. Through dedication and teamwork we have more team members than before and can now offer additional appointments making us more flexible than ever. In addition our nurses have all now completed a clinical photography course, so please don’t be alarmed if the nurses request clinical photographs! This is to create comprehensive patient records and will be a regular part of most dental appointments moving forward.
Although this year has been challenging at times, we still have had so much to be positive of through our achievements. We have been incredibly proactive in raising awareness on behalf of so many worthy causes such as; various cancer charities, dementia, women’s aid, mental health awareness and homelessness in the Wolverhampton area. We have raised money for cancer research by completing Race for Life as a Treetops team as well as running a marathon in the North Run raising a huge amount on behalf of NSPCC.
As a team we celebrated my owning the practice for 11 years with a Treetops family barbeque! We all had such a fantastic day reflecting on the changes not only to the practice but also dentistry in general. Personally our team has also had so much to celebrate, such as the births of three beautiful daughters to the families of Amandeep, Chris and Melissa. Treetops dental nurses Emma, Deana, Kacey and partners Jon, Kyle and Mat took the commitment of getting engaged to be married and dental nurse Kira went one step further and married her Fiancé Brad! This was all in addition to managing to stay open and maintain the high levels of dentistry and care you know and expect of us. We have achieved so much personally and together as a team too, which makes me proud to be the owner of this fabulous practice.
To conclude my reflections of the last year, I would like to share a few words that recently resonated with me “Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.” – Joshua J.Marine, Author.
Have a fantastic Christmas and New Year

We wanted to let you know that your appointment reminder texts and emails which you receive 48 hours before your appointments will look different to what you are used to. Please do not be alarmed, it is still Treetops Dental. The difference you will notice is that it will have a link attached, this link will direct you to a personal, private and confidential Medical History and Covid Assessment form which we would kindly ask you to complete prior to attending your appointment. These additions to our communications are in line with most health care providers, they allow for a more fluent patient journey with ‘safety first’ at every step. We thank you in anticipation for helping us to improve the service we provide. We would also be most grateful if you would confirm your mobile and email details with Kerrie, Linda or Jodie on reception when you next attend. This will ensure that we have your most up to date communication details. |

If you can’t hide it, make it pretty.
By Dr Viswanathan Pather
To all of our wonderful patients and friends, welcome back to our newsletter It is my understanding that this is the last one this year, however we will return In the new year.
This is also the Christmas Season, yes it is the season to be jolly. Since I am very much a Christmas person, I thought a more light hearted orthodontics article is in order.
Just a small disclaimer though….
The following is my opinion. It is based on my thoughts and how I look at the world. It does not mean that I don’t respect yours, or that yours is wrong.
As Robert Palmer sang ‘It takes every kinda people, to make what life’s about!
So please enjoy….
For many years, even as a child, I saw people trying to hide the fact that they have braces. I have never seen it done successfully, even in this day and age when it is the norm to wear masks, people are still trying to make it less obvious.
I believe that braces are only undesirable if the person wearing them believes they are. If you walk around believing that your braces are the coolest things on earth, they will be!
If you can’t hide it make it pretty.
I think that you should not make braces seem less obvious but actually more obvious. Have fun with them and own it.
The trick to this is the choice of ligatures. This is the part of the brace that holds the wire to the bracket. It also gives the brace it colours.
Don’t be afraid to choose pretty colours. Choose more than one colour, choose the colours of your sports team. You are only restricted by your imagination. |
|
 |
I have found that over time more and more of my patients who went for the more obvious colours did so because they thought it looked cool.
How much fun can you have with it, well….
Let me present to you my personal favourite …
|
|
 |
Have I surprised you? ‘Vis what are you thinking. You talk about having fun with colours but that is probably the least obvious.’
Wait for it …
Just shine an ultra violet light on it and then switch off the light … |
|
 |
Yes we do indeed have… GLOW IN THE DARK . Now those who know me will probably say ‘ Yes Vis, that is definitely you.’
I want to finish off this article with a special mention to a wonderful patient of ours. She decided to go with ceramic brackets. In case you don’t know, ceramic brackets traditionally look like this…. |
|
Her’s now look like this…. |
 |
|
And when it came time to change, they looked like this….
|
 |
|
So, the bottom line is that I am happy for you to be as creative as you want, within reason of course. It is your brace and we welcome you to use it as a vehicle of self-expression!
Enjoy the journey and smile with confidence!
I would also like to take this opportunity to wish all my friends, family, friends who are family, my wonderful patients and patients who are friends and family… a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2022!

To raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of mouth cancer, we took part in “Blue Wednesday”. Blue Wednesday is a day chosen by the Oral Health Foundation for all health professionals to wear blue on a day of their choosing. You may have noticed if you visited us on 17th November, we looked a bit different as we were wearing blue wigs, glitter, nail varnish, socks and blue lipstick!Although you would have heard a lot of laughter and we all had such a great day, the underlying message is an important one. Around 7 people a day lose their life to mouth cancer, yet not much is known about the disease. Learn the signs of mouth cancer, such as unusual lumps, red or white patches and ulcers, to catch it early. It will take you about 45 seconds and could save your life. If in doubt get it checked out, early detection is key. Please keep checking at home and please keep up to date with your dental check ups. |

In keeping with our Mouth Cancer awareness theme, we would like to prove that some heroes don’t wear capes, they wear Dental Nurse scrubs and work at Treetops!!
Please meet Mike Middleton below, Mike is Dental Nurse Emma Middleton`s dad. In February this year, Mike suffered from an enlarged tonsil and a sore throat that just wouldn’t go away. Mike didn’t think much of it apart from it being a bit sore and irritated. He presumed like a lot of people do, that it was nothing to worry about.
Luckily, Mike has an amazing Dental Nurse for a daughter and Emma quickly realised that there might be something more sinister happening. This was mainly due to the look and shape of the tonsil coupled with the fact that the irritation and pain had not subsided in a reasonable time frame. Emma badgered dad to get it looked at by a doctor and thank goodness she did! Mike actually had Stage 2 Mouth Cancer, in his case Cancer of the Tonsil.
Mike quickly underwent a tonsillectomy (removal of the tonsil) followed by a 30 day course of radiotherapy and thankfully he has now been given the all clear.
We are so pleased that due to Emma`s training and experience she was able to act quickly. This has meant that Mike`s Cancer was caught early enough for him to be treated effectively, giving him the best chance of recovery. In this case the outcome could not have been any better, sadly though, not everyone has an Emma at home to badger us to seek help. We ask you to get it checked out with either your dentist or your doctor if you have any of the symptoms below. If in doubt – Get it checked out!
Thank you Mike & Emma!
Symptoms:
Ulcers that do not heal with 3 weeks
Lumps or swellings in the mouth
Red and white patches in the mouth
Pictures below are of Mike and Emma and Mike in his radiotherapy mask. |

We are so proud to announce that one of our very own dental nurses Chloe recently took part in the big Molineaux Sleepout 2021.
Wolves fans and residents of the city were invited to spend a night sleeping rough in the Stan Cullis Stand to raise funds and awareness to support the homeless, vulnerable and the City of Wolverhampton.
Wolverhampton has a population of 263,537 and is amongst the 20 most deprived areas in the UK. The city falls 13th in ratings for education deprivation, eighth for income deprivation, fifth for youth violence in the West Midlands and sixth for employment deprivation. Wolverhampton, like so many cities around the country, is experiencing high levels of inequalities which is impacting unemployment rates, food poverty statistics and peoples mental health.
All funds raised will be shared between Wolves Foundation projects including Feed Our Pack to alleviate food poverty and the Good Shepherd, the charity situated opposite Molineux which provides food and a range of support services for those in need from the local community.
Well done Chloe!
We hope you can join us in saying how proud we are that Chloe participated in this worthy cause.
If you would like to donate it is not too late, just follow the link below.

To achieve this fabulous result, our patient has had 3 Sunekos treatments that were performed 10 days apart. Patient has since had a fourth treatment which means the result will be even more spectacular in the coming days.
You can already see a massive improvement in the skin tone and texture. In addition the redness in the skin has reduced significantly and the fine lines and wrinkles have reduced.
We would advise to repeat the treatment in 6 month to maintain results. |

Dear Treetops PatientsHappy December to you, your family and friends. I wanted to briefly share with you some great news – we have opened our downstairs waiting room. We sincerely hope that this helps to create a bit more comfort for you on these cold dark winter days. We ask you to please bear with us as we have limited seats due to social distancing so some pateints may still be asked to wait in their cars. Having patients back in our waiting room has been absolutely wonderful and we have loved chatting with you over the past few weeks. Thanks to you all, for being such a breath of fresh air with your festive cheer and gratitude for our services over this troubled period…we have missed you!
The protocol for attending appointments is:
On arriving in the car park please still call the practice so we can Covid Assess you and we will then invite you inside, should we have seats available and should you wish to wait in the practice.
Please wear your face mask on entering the building.
If you have been abroad within the last 10 days and do not have evidence of a negative PCR test, we ask you to reschedule appointment.
If you or anyone in your household have signs or symptoms of Covid or are self isolating, we ask you to rearrange.

Treetops Christmas Poem!
If you see a large man
Who’s jolly and cute,
wearing a beard
and a red flannel suit,
and if he is chuckling
and laughing away,
while flying around
in a miniature sleigh
with eight tiny reindeer
to pull him along,
then lets face it…
Your eggnog’s too strong!!!
Merry Christmas and Happy new year to all of our patients and family!
Love from all of the Treetops Team |
