We hope we find you well and that you are looking forward to whatever September may bring…

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of our patients for their understanding and compliance with our stringent Covid safety measures.  In health care settings we still follow all previous protocols and we hope this continues to  reassure you that we have your safety and the safety of our team at the forefront of all we do.

Travelling abroad
We are aware that people are travelling abroad a wee bit more and we have changed our protocol slightly:

We strongly ask patients not to attend the practice for 14 days after arriving back from any country outside of the United Kingdom .

Should a patient require treatment prior to the completion of their 14 days, we ask for the following:

Green or Amber Country
We will need to see evidence of your Covid vaccinations and your negative PCR result

Red Country
We will not be able to see you face to face until you have completed your isolation period.  If you are experiencing pain, please do call us and we will offer you a virtual consultation.  Following this we may refer you to a specialised clinic.

We would also like to thank all of our patients for their Google Reviews, we have excitedly and proudly reached over 200…THANK YOU

Enjoy reading our newsletter.

We wanted to raise awareness of this incredible charity

Their story started…with a promise
Their journey started with a promise to a dying boy. The O’Gorman family was shattered when brother and sister, Paul and Jean, fell victim to cancer within nine months of each other.  14-year-old Paul died only nine weeks after his initial diagnosis of leukaemia. But before he died, Paul asked his parents, Marion and Eddie O’Gorman, to help other children with leukaemia.  Paul’s sister Jean, in defiance of her cancer, started to raise money in her brother’s memory. She died just nine months later.

Research is essential
To save children’s lives, research is essential. Childhood cancers are different to adult cancers and need their own research. Most childhood cancers are unique to children.

At Children with Cancer UK they want to find safer, more effective treatments for all young patients. Cancer is still the most common medical cause of death in children and young people. Their focus as a children’s cancer charity is to fund visionary research and bring the breakthroughs that will bring hope to children and their families.
If you would like to get involved, whether to donate, volunteer or take part in the many of their fund raising activities  go to:

Did you know that one of the most common dental diseases is totally preventable?

Tooth decay (dental caries) is technically an infection type disease.  Dental plaque (the white sticky material) on the surface of the teeth is not dirt but is defined as a “sticky bacterial film you cannot wash off”.  The bugs which occur naturally multiply when we eat refined carbohydrates (ie your bag of Tate & Lyle sugar or sucrose) and because they are sticky they stay in close contact with the tooth surface.  The bugs then convert the sugar to an acid which then dissolves the tooth surface. This acid attack last up to 30 minutes so if more sugar is consumed within this time the attack is prolonged by another 30 minutes. This is why snacking is more harmful than eating a lot in one go!

As the tooth breaks down, the bugs invade the cavity and the process continues until they reach the nerve and infect it causing pain.  If you brush your teeth effectively and efficiently as shown by the hygienist and most importantly limit the frequency of sugar intake decay is totally preventable!

A word of warning though, there are also hidden sugars in most processed foods, anything that comes in a tin or a packet will contain sugars, so always best to check the labels on these items. Sugars found in fruits and milk cannot be utilised by the bugs as easily so these are not as harmful for your teeth.

Look out in future newsletter editions for my next blog…..gum disease!

Polly arranged an incredible BBQ for the Treetops team and their families to say a huge thank you for all their hard work during this difficult period.  In addition, we also celebrated Polly’s 11 year anniversary of leading Treetops Dental.  A fabulous time was had by all!

We enjoyed tasty ice-creams from ‘Fiona’s Ices’, coffee from the ‘Sassy Coffee Company’ and a mouth watering BBQ from ‘Buffet and Barbecue’.
The weather held out for us too which allowed the children (and adults) to bounce on the bouncy castle to their heart’s content, without any soggy socks!  A big thankyou to ‘A-Class Inflatables’.

We had so much fun and we can’t really put into words how wonderful it was to finally get the team together after such a tough few years.

They say pictures speak a thousand words, here are some photos of the Treetops gang below:
