Dear Treeops Patients

You may remember during the month of April we held a fundraising campaign to mark the 40th anniversary of Compton Care Hospice in Wolverhampton. Our aim was to raise money and awareness for all the wonderful work they do.

The Treetops Team and our lovely patients really gave the campaign their full support and we all had such a fabulous time!

For those of you who may not be aware, Compton Care provides people with the care, support, and the tools they need to live a good quality life.  In addition they support families and loved ones throughout the duration of a person’s illness and beyond.

Over the last four decades Compton Care has provided medical and clinical support to help ensure people are as pain free as possible and manage the physical changes to their bodies.

They have  helped families negotiate finances, care plans and all the lifestyle and environmental changes that comes with a terminal diagnosis.

They have offered emotional and spiritual support to patients and families, providing a safe and personalised space for people to cope with the circumstances they find themselves in.

We hope that you understand why supporting this incredible charity captured the hearts of not only every Treetops team member yet so many of our patients too. We thank every single one of you!

We are so proud and delighted to announce that the Treetops team and their patients, raised a… whopping £1000.00!!

Treetops ask for your help..

Some people put off visiting the Dentist for many reasons and a lot of times it is due to a bad past experience or a fear inherited from others.  This can have a detrimental effect on not only their oral and overall health yet their ability to smile with pride!

All of our Treetops patients know when they visit the Treetops team they are welcomed with a smile, treated with care, and respected by  all of our skilled clinicians. We actively encourage our patients to share their positive Treetops experiences as this will, without doubt lend a helping hand to those patients putting off that first visit

All you need to do is hover your mobile phones camera over the QR code below and add your comments.

Thank you so much.

The Treetops Team

We thought this month it might be nice to introduce Liz, our Social Media and Marketing Lead.  Some of you will have met Liz about the practice or when you have been kindly sharing your video testimonials, she never stops smiling ..anyway over to Liz…Hi everyone, I am Liz, and I love the role I play within the Treetops team!  I firstly wanted to thank all of our patients who interact with our social media platforms and all of you who have shared with us not only written yet video testimonials too.  I am the person who liaises with patients who have contacted us through Facebook, Instagram, Working Feedback and Google My Business. I am also responsible for ensuring our social media platforms are up to date and reflect Treetops for the fantastic practice it is!

I have worked at Treetops for 4 years, and it is safe to say my job has most definitely changed in that time! When I first started at Treetops our social media presence was quite small, we did have Facebook but posts were few and far between.  The need over the past two years to communicate through all platforms possible, due to Covid, has evolved my role and my focus. I am so proud to say that today we not only have Facebook but Instagram, Tiktok and YouTube channels and our followers have almost doubled in this time too.  Louise and myself have developed our newsletter over the past three years to being a monthly edition with articles that ensure we are communicating what is happening in the world of the Treetops Dental, its team and the world of dentistry.  We are incredibly proud that our subscribers have grown from 500 to over 4000!
I work closely with our talented clinicians who proudly share with me their before and after treatment photographs, which allows us to showcase the incredible difference their cosmetic solutions have made to a patient’s smile.  Treatments such as veneers or teeth whitening can produce a real life changing effect for people and this teamwork between the patient and the clinician we always feel deserves to be showcased!  I find when a clinician and patient have had a really good experience together and are thrilled with the result, patients want to shout it from the rooftops and are only too happy to do a video testimonial for me. It makes sense to share this with a wider audience and how better to do that than virtually – through all of our social media platforms!

I have to say I sometimes feel that my job isn’t actually a job because I enjoy it so much.  I definitely get the nice jobs to do in the practice! What other job could I do where I get to chat to happy patients and have them tell me how thrilled they are with their treatment solutions or with the Treetops Team.  I also organise presents for team members to acknowledge a special date or anniversary or even a job well done, we celebrate a nominated employee every month and I get to pick their special gift! I know I am blessed as the management team at Treetops rarely say no to any of my madcap team building schemes, and this person centred approach and belief I think is one of the reasons why you will always see our team with a smile –  we all believe a happy team is a successful team.

I am also proud of the campaigns that we do here at Treetops, I feel we have an ethical as well as practical obligation to educate as many people as we can on good oral health, so this could be getting involved in oral cancer awareness, no smoking or heart disease awareness month. Having a good oral health routine is not just to make sure your teeth are in tip top condition, by maintaining a good oral health routine and visiting your dentist regularly can identify problems early which could and have literally saved someone’s life. You may remember we posted on social media and our newsletter recently that one of our nurses Emma spotted a problem with a mouth ulcer that her dad had found. This turned out to be a form of mouth cancer. Luckily because of education and information that he had seen (as well as Emma’s intervention) this was swiftly treated and we are delighted that he is now in full remission.

Today we are so fortunate that we are at a time where we can get information to our patients quickly and effectively which in a world where time is so precious can make all the difference. So if you feel like being in front of a camera and having a chat with me to do a testimonial about your experiences here or if you simply want to engage with our social media pages, please let me know! I am always happy to respond and listen to any suggestions you may have or if you just want a chat to find out what’s new at the practice please just pop me an email on assistant@treetopsdentalsurgery.co.uk or message me on facebook – Treetops Dental Surgery Codsall Wolverhampton, or if you prefer IG treetopsdentalcodsall

I hope to speak to you soon!
Liz

We do appreciate that life can sometimes get in the way and patients do not intentionally miss their appointments. August has seen 87 missed appointments equating to approximately 29 hours of lost clinical time. We would be most grateful if you could try and let us know as soon as you are able if you need to cancel an appointment with us, so we can give your appointment time to another patient that may desperately need to see us.

Thank you so much

Next month it could be you!

Dentistry has thankfully come a long way over the last century. Treatments are now much more sophisticated, with the emphasis being centered more on care and aesthetics, rather than just pain management and tooth extractions. The roles men and women have in dentistry are also very different to how they were 50 or 60 years ago, they are no longer as defined or stereotypical as they once were, gone are days where nurses are female and dentists are male. We are now much more progressive, we have both men and women in practice administration, nursing, hygiene and therapy, and a much better balance of women dentists than ever seen before.  According to the British Dental Association between 2007 and 2015, the number of women registered as dentists increased by a massive 44.2%!

Treetops is very proud to say that our dentists are mixed male and female.  We firmly believe that gender, cultural, family and physical differences should not be barriers to progression in our practice.

What about Dental Hygienists and Therapists?

While it is no secret that the majority of dental hygienists and therapists are still women, it does appear that the numbers of male hygienists is now also on the rise. The International Federation of Dental Hygienists state that  in 2015 there were 6890 female Dental Hygienists/Therapists in the UK and only 248 male, but according to the General Dental Council new registrations of male Hygienists went up by 5% in 2019. This increase is a step in the right direction, yet we still have a long way to go for gender equality to make its way to dental hygienists in the same way women are levelling the playing field as dentists.

With this in mind, we thought the best way to explore this is to look closer to home and to simply ask our very own male Dental Hygienist and Therapist, Gregory Wilshaw,  what his thoughts are on the subject and how he became a Dental Hygienist/Therapist!

Hi I am Greg and I am a hygiene therapist and I am a man! Believe it or not there are a few of us about!
I qualified in 2011 and my route to get into dentistry is a bit different, I didn’t go through the civilian side of things as I was in the army and I trained through a dental school through the services. Sadly that route was disbanded in 2013, although I do still want to mention as homage to the military as there are lots of career options available through the military and not just frontline facing roles.I have always wanted to work in healthcare and I chose a career path in dentistry. Initially I worked as a Dental Nurse and then a Practice Manager and then once I had the qualifications and experience I began my journey as a Dental Hygienist and Therapist. Seven years later I was qualified!  Competition to become a Hygiene Therapist can be tough, even in the military I had to try three years in a row before I was accepted.  You need to be determined and persistent if you are choosing this as a career path today.Typically my job is looking after my patients gum health and their periodontal health which includes cleaning my patient’s teeth, removing any plaque and tartar and accessing their level of gum disease if any, then together developing a treatment plan.  Sometimes I can be involved in a wider scale solution, for example a patient may need some restorative work such as implants or crowns but their gum health might not be where it needs to be, so I will work with the patient to get their gum health in better condition so they can proceed with a further treatment. It could be that I see a patient post treatment and help them to maintain their gum health going forward.
I am passionate about my role within the Treetops team and I hope to see you soon
Congratulations! We are delighted to report that mother and baby are doing well and Kira has taken to motherhood like a duck to water. We miss you Kira but enjoy every second of this new chapter.
Introducing our new Facial Aesthetics Skin Scanner!

At Treetops we are now offering our patients a new way of looking at their skin on a much deeper level by the use of a facial Skin Scanner. Our friendly Facial Aesthetics Practitioner Kaye Higgs provides a discreet, natural approach to medical aesthetics. Kaye strives to help you to look and feel the best version of yourself, so the Skin Scanner is a fantastic way for her to carry out an extensive consultation and in depth skin analysis. This gives Kaye the perfect opportunity to assess the health of your skin, listen to your thoughts and recommend the best possible treatment plan.

Procedure

A Skin Scanner was developed as a means of optically examining skin at a deeper level and enables us to make more informed decisions about your skin. Many common skin conditions originate from these deep layers of skin, and are often difficult to spot on the strength of the human eye alone.

A Skin Scanner procedure takes approximately 15-20 minutes and is completely pain-free. We will firstly cleanse and tone the face before this procedure begins, we will then ask you to place your chin on a chin rest inside the scanner and close your eyes. Six lights will then flash and you will be told when you can open your eyes and remove your chin from the chin rest. Your results will be available instantly.

The scanner will breakdown the results to show;

UV damage
Pore size and location
Wrinkle size and depth
Pigmentation and what level in the skin this is effecting
Your skins metabolism and its ability to repair
Moisture
Sensitivity
And much more….
Why is this useful?

As mentioned the scanner will highlight problems or things that are not visible to the naked eye so this gives us a much more in depth and accurate ability to treat the skin correctly thus prescribing the correct facial products and treatments to help correct your own individual problems that have been highlighted within your skin.

A skin scan should be your first port of call on your facial aesthetics journey this will provide the foundations for you to receive the correct products and treatments for you and your skin. This will help maintain optimum skin health.

Tracking progress and results

A Skin Scanner isn’t just used for diagnosis – it also provides us with the technology to track your treatment progress in more detail than ever before. We can now re scan you and take photos at certain intervals of your treatment and compare them with those taken before, to show not only to the visual eye but be able to show you at a cellular level how your skin has responded to either home-care or at the end of a specific treatment plan.

When is it time for a dental check ?It’s never too early to make a start
It’s up to parents to play their part
So when you make a dental visit
Your responsibility is explicitTake your child even baby too
So that they know what dentists do
So open wide that they may see
It’s not scary just simple as one two three
Thank you again Liz for our fabulous poem!

Wishing all of our patients a fabulous September
